I think we can all agree that our customers’ purchasing habits are changing along with changes in consumption. One of the vestiges of the Pandemic that seems to endure for our market is e-commerce or the online ordering of product for delivery or pick-up. Many providers have been able to navigate through the rules of regulation to make this as one of many viable ways to meet demand through convenience.
Online ordering not only endures but is a source of growth from those consumers who have adopted food and beverage e-commerce platforms. In fact, in our most recent My Voice Rewards consumer report, the online purchasing of bev-al products have risen to 48% from 36% a year ago. Frequency of ordering by this method has also increased. This growth extends across beer, wine and spirits. Find out more about this bright spot in our industry in our ‘From Convenience to Consumer Habit’ study below.
This month we virtually reconvened our ACTIVATE Category Management Work Group. After acknowledging it is best to start small, we concluded that we collectively spend the next quarter until our next meeting doing the following:
- Assessing the current degree of use of category management principles in the Bev-Al marketplace
- Determining the depth of resources the industry has available
- Creating a How-to-start guide for those interested in pursuing this avenue of optimizing their assortment of products to meet their unique market strengths
A survey will be on the its way soon. I hope your summer has provided the self-rejuvenation for the busy holiday season ahead. The Beverage Information Group is here for you every season. Don’t hesitate to reach out.
