Santo Spirits is debuting a limited-edition offering: Santo Tequila Extra Añejo.
Aged for 41 months in a single ex-bourbon barrel and bottled at 80 proof, according to the brand, the Extra Añejo Tequila is produced by third-generation distiller Juan Eduardo Nuñez and tequilera Karina Rojo at El Viejito Distillery (NOM 1107) in Atotonilco el Alto, Jalisco. With fewer than 240 bottles available for purchase, this new expression is 100% additive-free tequila.
Like all tequilas in the Santo Spirits portfolio, Santo Tequila Extra Añejo is distilled from 100% Blue Weber Agave – both estate-grown and sourced from the Highlands region. The agaves are cooked using traditional stone ovens, employing a low pressure/slow cooking method, according to the brand.
On the nose, it presents a combination of green apple, orange zest and a hint of butterscotch, according to the brand, while the palate reveals earthy and sweet with notes of grilled sweet corn, bell pepper, citrus, caramel, coffee and chocolate.
“Our original Añejo release was a real winner – so much so we had two delivery trucks of our tequila stolen last year, including a private barrel selection of something very special: our first Extra Añejo. Guy (Fieri) and I have been working hard to get back on track since the theft, and as part of that recovery, we thought it was time to let a broader audience enjoy this precious extra aged tequila. Those additional 17 months of resting in ex-bourbon barrels gives it an even richer, earthier flavor that is super agave forward, making our latest tequila an absolute powerhouse of a summer sipper,” said Sammy Hagar, Santo Spirits founder, in a news release.
With an SRP of $149.99 for a 750-ml. bottle, Santo Tequila Extra Añejo is available exclusively online at shop.santospirits.com.
