The Glenrothes has announced The 15, now on shelves in the U.S.
The 15 is a permanent addition to The Glenrothes’ portfolio of whiskies, meant to complement The 18 and the 25.
The 15 matured in European oak sherry seasoned casks, for a flavor profile of bright sweet spice.
The Glenrothes uses oak casks, custom made and seasoned in Spain. The 15 is 100% naturally colored by the cask, a trademark of The Glenrothes’ entire portfolio of whiskies.
The 15 is comes in The Glenrothes’ traditional bottle, packed in a dual-layered cylinder. Drawing inspiration from the natural greenery found throughout The Glenrothes Estate, the packaging of The 15 introduces shades of lichen green, meant as a tribute to the whisky’s Scottish Highland home.
Bottled at 43% ABV, it carries a suggested retail price of $100. It is now available online and on shelves throughout the U.S. via Total Wine, Reserve Bar, Binny’s, Astor Wine & Spirits and others.
“Whilst The Glenrothes spirit is inherently delicate in style, it does not get overwhelmed by the bolder flavors created by maturation in first-fill European oak casks,” says Laura Rampling, master whisky maker at The Glenrothes. “It is this precise and counterintuitive marriage of the delicate and the bold that makes this 15 year old whisky unique, bringing sweet fruit and bright spice together in a deliciously unexpected way.”
