First introduced in a local test batch in late 2018, Harpoon Brewery’s new Rec. League pale ale is now available nationally.
This hoppy, hazy ale is lower-calorie and made with buckwheat kasha, ground chia seeds and Mediterranean Sea Salt for a source of electrolytes. It contains just 120 calories per pint and is 3.8% ABV.·
Expanding on the theme of a more-nutritional beer, Buckwheat Kasha adds a nutty, toasted grain flavor, and also minerals (such as manganese, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, selenium) and B vitamins (B2- thiamine, B3-Riboflavin, and B5-pantothenic acid). Ground Chia Seeds are high in fiber, Omega-3 fatty acids, and anti-oxidants, the company says, also add a fuller mouthfeel to Rec. League, in addition to more minerals and B Vitamins.
Rec. League is now available in 4-packs 16-oz. cans, and 15-packs of 12-oz cans. The SRP differs per market, but begins around $7.99 for the 4-pack.
