Republic National Distributing Company (RNDC) announced with deep sadness the passing of Eddie Block, a longtime partner of the company and a highly respected leader in the wine and spirits industry.
Mr. Block devoted more than 50 years to the beverage alcohol industry, carrying forward a family legacy that began in 1939 when his father founded Block Distributing Company in San Antonio. He began his career at Franchise Liquors in Denver before returning to San Antonio to lead Block Distributing, where he served as president for 17 years. Following the company’s merger with Republic Beverage Company, Mr. Block became vice chairman and later a partner of RNDC, playing a meaningful role in shaping the organization’s growth and values.
Throughout his career, Mr. Block was widely admired not only for his business acumen, but for the integrity, generosity and professionalism he brought to every relationship. In recognition of his enduring impact on business and the state of Texas, he was inducted into the Texas Business Hall of Fame in 2023—one of the highest honors bestowed on business leaders in the state.
Mr. Block also served on numerous industry boards, including Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America and the Licensed Beverage Distributors of Texas, and was honored with the American Beverage Licensees’ Top Shelf Award for his contributions to both the industry and the communities it serves.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mr. Block was deeply committed to the San Antonio community. His philanthropic support included organizations such as the San Antonio Jewish Federation, the United Way Tocqueville Society, the McNay Art Museum, the University of Texas Health Science Center, the Cancer Therapy & Research Center of San Antonio, and Baylor College of Medicine.
A proud graduate of the University of Oklahoma, Mr. Block was a trusted mentor, partner and friend to many across RNDC and the broader industry. His legacy at RNDC continues through his daughter, Stephanie Block, who serves on RNDC’s Board of Directors and carries forward the values and leadership her father exemplified.
Mr. Block is survived by his sister; three beloved nieces and their families; two daughters; and a grandson, all of whom were a profound source of pride and joy in his life.
