Orphan Barrel has released Night Sage, a 25-year-old blended Canadian whisky, marking the 25th limited-edition release in the limited-edition collection from Diageo.
The whisky is available at spirits retailers nationwide, as well as through TheBar.com and ReserveBar.com, with a suggested retail price of $225 per 750-ml. bottle.
Night Sage is the second blended Canadian whisky in the Orphan Barrel Collection. The whisky contains liquid distilled in Ontario and Manitoba. Producers matured the whisky in two barrel types: first-dump oak barrels, which had previously held Canadian whisky once, and multi-use barrels that had also previously held Canadian whisky.
The release features label artwork inspired by the snow owl.
“Night Sage reflects the guiding principle of the Orphan Barrel project: a fundamental respect for time and the patience to allow whiskies to mature under careful supervision until they are at their peak,” says Mark Balkenende, Master Blender Canada at Diageo. “After 25 years in seasoned oak, this whisky reveals remarkable depth, layered richness and an elegant finish that rewards slow appreciation.”
According to tasting notes provided by the company, Night Sage opens with aromas of butterscotch, vanilla and toasted oak. The palate includes brown sugar, toffee, walnut and fig, followed by a finish featuring dried fruit, vanilla and oak.
The Orphan Barrel Collection focuses on identifying and bottling aged whiskies from Diageo’s inventory. Like other releases in the collection, Night Sage is available as a single limited-edition batch.
This follows the release of Orphan Barrel Fanged Pursuit Kentucky Straight Bourbon Aged 17 Years.
