Domaine Serene Winery has released its 2023 vintage, the first produced under winemaker Carl Formaker, who joined the Oregon winery that year.
The release includes the 2023 ‘Aspect’ Pinot Noir, 2023 Étoile Vineyard Chardonnay and 2023 Côte Sud Vineyard Chardonnay.
Formaker grew up in Sonoma County, California. He earned a biology degree from UC Berkeley and worked in the medical field for five years before pursuing winemaking. He later earned a master’s degree in viticulture and enology from UC Davis.
Formaker worked harvests in the U.S. and abroad before taking roles at Marcassin Wines and Three Sticks Wines. He joined Domaine Serene as the winery began its 2023 harvest in Oregon.
“When you come to a place like Domaine Serene with so much legacy, tradition, and history, your first impression matters,” said Formaker. “I knew I wanted to put something out there that would honor the estate, the team, and the wines. I did not take that lightly.”
A warm 2023 growing season accelerated ripening and shortened the window between sparkling and still wine picks, according to the producer.
Domaine Serene has made the 2023 wines available through the winery, its wine club and select retailers.
