The Jack Daniel Distillery has announced Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Special Release Tanyard Hill Rye as the latest edition in its annual series of limited whiskeys.
Tanyard Hill Rye is a barrel proof Tennessee rye whiskey matured in one of the oldest barrelhouses at the Jack Daniel Distillery, the company says.
Tanyard Hill, located next to Coy Hill at the Jack Daniel Distillery, is home to four barrel houses built in the early 1960s. This Tennessee rye whiskey entered new American White Oak barrels in November 2015 and matured in Barrel House 1 atop Tanyard Hill.
“The Special Release series has been a great way for us to showcase our craft of whiskey making here in Lynchburg,” says Jack Daniel’s Master Distiller Chris Fletcher. “We’re fortunate to have barrel houses at so many unique locations that produce deep, rich, and complex whiskeys. Like Coy Hill was before, Tanyard Hill has been one of the hidden gems for locals familiar with the distillery grounds. We’re now bringing more people into this secret and can’t wait to see what our friends think of this special Tennessee Rye Whiskey.”
Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Special Release Tanyard Hill Rye features Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Rye Whiskey mash bill of 70% rye, 18% corn and 12% malted barley. It is charcoal filtered before maturing in new oak barrels. It has an aroma of dark fruit and sweet oak, according to distillery notes, with flavors of candied mint, dark chocolate and layers of baking spice. It finishes with notes of clove and sweet tobacco with an oak balance.
Special Release Tanyard Hill Rye comes bottled at barrel proof, ranging from 65.10% to 74.40% ABV by volume (130.2 to 148.8 Proof). It will be available in 700-ml. bottles across the U.S. in limited quantities beginning this month, with a suggested retail price of $79.99.
This follows the recent release of Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Heritage Barrel Tennessee Whiskey.
