Johnnie Walker Unveils Latest in Ghost and Rare Line

Johnnie Walker has announced the newest release of its Blue Label Ghost and Rare line that uses whisky from “ghost” distilleries long shuttered.

The third release in this series will be Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Glenury Royal.

Glenury Royal is a Highland single malt that halted production in 1985, during the nadir of Scotch in the ’80s when many distilleries were forced to close their doors.

The Johnnie Walker team also selected two whiskies from the ghost distilleries of Cambus and Pittyvaich, balancing their “creamy toffee and butterscotch” notes with the “orchard fruits, sweet apple and apricot character of Glenury Royal,” the company says.

Five other whiskies from Glen Elgin, Inchgower, Glenlossie, Cameronbridge and Glenkinchie bring vanilla, heather honey and dried fruits that weave through dark chocolate and nutty layers, the company adds.

Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Glenury Royal is 43.8% ABV. It will be available for an SRP of around $345 per 750-ml. bottle.

Each bottle in this special release is individually numbered.
