The Cannabis Practice Group [“CPG”] of aBIZinaBOX Inc. CPA’s serves commercial cannabis industry businesses in California. The CPG have experienced > 250% growth over prior period due adult-use cannabis becoming legal in 2018. The CPG has professionals in Evanston, IL, and Oakland, CA. The practice is led by Jordan S. Zoot, CPA, Managing Director – CEO, who has been in professional practice since 1982.
Mr. Zoot is licensed as a CPA in CA, FL, IL, NY, and TX. He has a national reputation of technical and transactional taxation of pass-thru entities [Partnerships, LLC’s and S Corporations], private equity and alternative asset funds primarily in distressed mortgages and assets, professional services, real estate, venture-funded tech start-ups, and the commercial cannabis industry in California.
Mr. Zoot has extensive experience in taxpayer and practitioner representation with the Examination, Appeals and Collection functions with IRS, including Special Procedures – Bankruptcy, Insolvency, Offer in Compromise, and Circular 230 Practitioner Representation with the Office of Professional Responsibility [“OPR”]
Mr. Zoot has a member of the AICPA, and state societies [CalCPA, FICPA, ICPAS, NYSSCPA, and TSCPA] for over thirty years. He has served an appointed member of AICPA’s Responsibilities in Tax Practice, Practice Management, and Subchapter K Technical Committees and as the CITP Champion for Illinois. He has had extensive involvement in the regulation commenting process with the US Treasury.
Mr. Zoot is engaged at numerous points of contact in a lead role with AICPA senior executives in the process of developing policy, advocacy and education for CPA’s serving the legal cannabis industry. He has been involved with OPR in connection with the cannabis industry, Title 31 [FinCEN] matters and the IRS’s OVDP Amnesty Program.
Mr. Zoot is engaged with CalCPA’s Government Liaison Office in connection with SWOT analysis, talking points for engagement with the legislature, the cannabis regulatory agencies, Bureau of Cannabis Control “BCC” [Retail, Retail-Delivery, Distribution – Packaging], California Dept. of Public Health “CDPH” [Manufacturing, Processing, Extraction], California Dept. of Food and Agriculture “CDFA” [Cultivation] and the California Dept. of Tax and Fee Administration [“CDTFA”] in connection with urgently need regulatory guidance for Cannabis Cultivation, Excise and Sales Taxes.
The firm is skilled in dealing with:
• The unique financial record-keeping needs of cultivators, distributors, processors, and extractors.
• The selection of optimal operating structures for each participant in the California cannabis industry.
• Adjusting structures and modifying financial record-keeping to comply with a rapidly evolving regulated California marketplace.

I am confused about the laws passed in regards to the Cbd oils, capsules or legal medical marijuana in the state of Alabama/My 91 year old mother-in-law had purchased, an oil and it was from a convenience store after her 91 year old husband and her 99 year old last SIBLING had both died in 2018 & I had understood that my RA, Lupus and endometriosis- would be helped by these hemp legal cannabis capsules & I also purchased a bottle -we both were shocked by our local newspaper front page claims that all this was the same as marijuana and people would be sent letters & arrested – my mother in law / freaked out from fear hid her oil & then found it disposed of the oil & now is having pain injections in her spine without any relief & I stopped the capsules & my RA pain & all other health problems have grown worse to the point my left foot -which had stopped any further deformity has begun to look awful and I lost from 180 pds/size 14 in past three months to a size 2/3 – my blood work as of 06-17 & 01-2018 had extremely perfect CRP & Sed rate levels dropping with 13 other abnormal levels returning to normal- now, we both are sick & suffering & my nephew who did two tours in Iraq- just tried to shoot himself in the head from PTSD in front of his family and was arrested for domestic violence & my oldest brother has taken custody of the kids – I’ve met with a group of men today who are dealing with sons & daughters trying to kill themselves from war related PTSD- we have all been lucky enough that these young men & women are alive & some are agreeable to therapy – we need help & we have had local doctors in the past recommending- if you’ve found any help – well, dont get caught – we’ve done all we can for cancer, PTSD- and chronic pain- we have also been allowed to open windows in local hospitals and help dying men and women at the end stages -smoke illegal product & if a nurse or Dr opened the hospital doors- said excuse me and I will be happy to return – we dont understand why or what to do anymore – due to all the confusing laws and information- about Cannabis products in the state of Al – can we get any advise on how to get rid of these drugs and chemicals that aren’t working- and putting compassionate Doctors at risk ?
