Anheuser-Busch Will Pay Up To $28M in Beck’s Labeling Lawsuit

Anheuser-Busch has agreed to pay up to $28 million in a settlement over a class action lawsuit about the labeling of Beck’s beer, according to a Reuters article.

The lawsuits derives from drinkers believing the brand misled them into thinking Beck’s was brewed in Germany. Rather, it originates from St. Louis.

In a Florida federal court yesterday, Anheuser-Busch consented to paying 50 cents per six pack, $1 for each 12-pack, and $1.75 for each 20-pack of 12-ounce bottles, the article says. Households with proof of purchase will receive $50 max, while those without can receive $12 total.

Claimants number at least 60,000, with more expected to file.

Anheuser-Busch will also change the label and website of Beck’s to reflect it being a domestic brand, for the next five years.

The agreement was authorized by U.S. Magistrate Judge John J. O’Sullivan in the U.S. Southern District of Florida.
